Yet this is every bit a modern city, with all the services and attractions you’d expect for a city of more than half-a-million people. If all this walking is not your thing, you might want to book a day tour to the Alhambra or maybe even the white villages instead. This is the perfect place to get some handmade souvenirs from Málaga.

Granada and Alhambra

This blog provides you with itineraries and tips for beautiful destinations, cruises and road trips – focusing on the quality of experiences over quantity. I have enjoyed our cruise stop in Malaga very much and can rate it as one of my favorite ports of call. Málaga Cathedral

Larger cruise liners dock in the eastern area of the port, while smaller ships dock at the inner basin near the Palm Grove waterfront, which is only a five-minute walk from the cathedral. For those seeking a more upscale dining experience, the rejuvenated port area Muelle Uno offers stylish eateries with sea views, with the added benefit of its proximity to the cruise ship terminal. The city of Malaga has invested in new facilities to attract cruise ships.

Some popular attractions include the Alcazaba, a Moorish castle located in the city center, the Picasso Museum, and the Cathedral of Malaga. You can also enjoy the beaches, take a stroll through the historic center, or explore the local food scene. City officials have invested heavily in Malaga Cruise Port in recent years.

Pablo Picasso House Malaga is the city where Pablo Picasso was born in 1881. The original furnishings are nog longer here, but you will find a permanent exhibition of ceramics and sculptures by Picasso. There is a hop on hop off bus service in Malaga, but they generally do not come to the dock. The artistry of the Muslim architects that conceived the Alhambra complex is magnificent.

The Picasso Museum in Malaga has 233 works of art in 11 galleries. Find many prominent pieces of art like Jacqueline seated, Women with Raised Arms and Acrobat here. Just outside of the city centre you will find an old tobacco factory.

She spends most parts of the year abroad at various destinations with her husband. If you decide to stay in the city, you’ll not be disappointed. It also has a specially designed mobile passenger loading bridge which connects to the cruise liner from the pier. This terminal is right in town, located at a pretty boulevard. The Palmeral section of las Sorpresas accommodates smaller ships and is located in the heart of the city. Currency exchange can be made in most banks, post offices and train stations. For the best exchange rate, use ATMs found at the port and around town. The terminals have great passengers’ movement facilities and luggage facilities. The security measures are up to date and the services at top level. Malaga is a major port city and cruise port (together with Motril) to Granada City - the capital of Spain's Granada Province (Autonomous Community of Andalusia).

For wine lovers, I recommend this exciting and highly-rated shore excursion that takes you on a journey through the beautiful Malagan countryside and the picturesque village of Comares. If you are heading for the beach, just walk to the lighthouse, about 200 meters away from the dock and relax on a nice sandy beach. The Port of Málaga is located in Southern Spain, and because of its strategic location it can be considered in routes to the Med & to the Atlantic, in this last case going both North & South. It provides an easy access for ships, and trouble-free weather conditions all year round, as for winds and waves. Tides are not an issue either, with a tide level range of max. The Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) and the Carmen Thyssen Museum present impressive collections of modern and 19th-century art.

Another docking location for smaller, exclusive vessels is Palmeral de las Sorpresas terminal, located in the inner basin, only a 5-minute walk from the Malaga Cathedral and the city center. The promenade is long, offers wonderful views of the harbor and Playa la Malagueta (the city beach), and is filled with restaurants, shops and bars. If you have the time, I recommend walking from the terminal, there are plenty of shops, stalls with souvenirs and handmade goods, and restaurants along the way. You will also pass by Muelle Uno, Centro Pompidou, a lighthouse, and a beach. Centro Pompidou, a contemporary art museum located just outside the port, is one of my personal favorite attractions in Malaga. Muelle Uno is home to a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

Malaga is a wonderful place to wander and explore, particularly in the winding lanes of the old town, with their traditional taverns, plazas and pretty squares. It also encompasses fine architecture and has enough ancient buildings to keep history hounds happy for hours. Unlike Costa del Sol's party zones, including Puerto Banus, Torremolinos and Benalmadena, all great for clubbers, Malaga, although cosmopolitan, retains a distinctly traditional feel.

The city has an extensive network of buses that cover most of the city and its surrounding areas, including the airport. The buses are modern, clean, and air-conditioned, making them a comfortable and convenient way to travel around the city, with line 14 running from the port. To give you an idea of the distances, you can walk from the cruise terminal to the Alcazaba, to the Picasso Museum and to Malagueta Beach in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Yes, the city center of Malaga is walkable from the Malaga Cruise Port. It is approximately a 15-minute walk from the port to the edge of the old town.
